Rhinoceros Hornbill. How cool is that?I am in love with these guys. Plus they sit fairly still for sketching.
The Aviary says they are from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java and Borneo
so I will probably never get an opportunity to see them in the wild.

Lovely sketch Gabrielle. Where were you in Kentucky? I lived there for a couple of years before moving to Philadelphia. In terms of geography I always found the rolling hills south of Lexington where I lived to be among the most pleasant I've ever lived in. There was just something so soothing about those hills. Always seemed to put me in a good mood.

We had driven through Louisville, KY and then up to the Covington area right across the river from Cinncinnati OH. Kentucky is beautiful, but we were on a schedule so unfortunately we just drove through rather than sight-seeing.
I seem to recall that there is an artist's retreat/residency place in Kentucky. That would be a beautiful place to spend a month just painting!

Hi Claire, thanks for stopping by. Have you ever been to the Aviary in Pittsburgh? It is small, so it doesn't get overwhelming the way a lot of zoos do. Maybe your painting group could plan a trip there one of these days - the tropical rooms would be a nice escape in winter!
